What do Cameron and Jimmy Make of the Kalaam Argument for God's Existence?
Переглядів 4,9 тис.12 годин тому
One of the most popular recent arguments for God's existence is the Kalaam (Kalam) Cosmological Argument. One version goes like this: (1) Everything that has a beginning has a cause, (2) the universe has a cause, therefore (3) the universe has a cause, which would be God. Both scientific reasons (like the Big Bang theory) and philosophical arguments have been proposed for the universe having a ...

I really hope they do. I miss Coa-coa and Gizmo so much. I'd love to see Santa's Little Helper run again.
This is so fascinating. God is good.
An old bearded man coming through the door to retrieve his child? Sounds like Brahma. And what the dying little girl said about the afterlife strikes me as more consistent with Platonism and Hinduism than Christianity. The material body is created for this life, and when we leave it, we leave it in an astral body.
One thing that adds confusion to this is, suppose I were a prominent politician who was refused communion by my bishop over my pro-abortion stance. And suppose instead of at least trying some sort of penance--even if the political party system as it is would prevent me from taking direct anti-abortion measures--I just straight up owned the fact that I'm pro-abortion and that Church teaching is just plain wrong. And suppose I then went to St Peter's in Rome and received communion in a very public way. Granted, nothing like this has ever happened anywhere and surely never could. But, purely hypothetically speaking, what could one infer from this purely hypothetical situation?
That each bishop has jurisdiction in his own diocese? If the politician were excommunicated he would have been denied communion anywhere else. Excommunication applies everywhere, banning from communion only applies in the diocese the bishop manages.
@@tafazziReadChannelDescription any sort of legalism in the answer seems to miss the bigger picture that, given the very public nature of the situation, two bishops are looking at things and coming to very different conclusions. If we just shrug and say "my dioceses my rules" we gloss over the fact that there shouldn't be profound and ongoing differences between teaching offices, especially when one "outranks" the other
@@WayneDrake-uk1gg news flash Rome doesn't spend much time thinking of America. It's nit the case that the bishop of Rome looked into anything, they treated Biden as just a guy that approached communion. You're trying to blur a very clear cut line, it doesn't work.
@@WayneDrake-uk1gg you're wrong, yt cencors me so I can't prove that to you
@@tafazziReadChannelDescription I see the post about Rome not thinking much about America, but I don't see how that's realistically plausible
Oh man, what a great episode! And I cannot wait for next week’s episode, it sounds super interesting!
GOD BLESS you and your staff gracias @Jimmy Akin
Great episode 👍
i no longer use the kalam cosmological argument, basically if infinite regresses don't work, then infinite objects can't exist. That means every substance that exists is limited. But if you think about it, if everything is limited, then existence will inevitably be surrounded by non-existence. once you reach the boundary of existence, you reach that which does not exist. In other words, we necessarily MUST come "from nothing." because as limited existence, we are necessarily surrounded by nothing. True nothing isn't something that can be talked about. That's because if you're talking about something, that means you aren't talking about nothing. If what you refer to has qualities or any kind of existence, what you're talking about isn't nothing. If you think about it, this means a person can only talk or think or refer to the things that do exist. In other words, there is no state of nothing before the beginning, rather, there is just a beginning and what follows. If you look at the picture from this view, you'll see its perfectly sound. it just means that's there is a beginning of the universe and time, which is what we would expect from a limited object. The kalam would be a workable argument if we could prove that a "nothing" vacume state actually existed prior to the existence of substances, but honestly even then, one could argue that even physical vaccumes have powers, which, apparently they do. So I just don't think it works.
Allah is not God. Allah is a moon god. God forbids addressing Him using a pagan name.
Sadly the "what if you had been aborted" argument doesnt really work. Most people my age would say that they wish they had been aborted.
In a nutshell Shell what you’re saying here is a “NDE” is proof of a god? Or proof that drugs and modern medicine keep people alive when they should have died?
Pray for us in NM!
What a fantastic interview. I had not heard of Frank before this - but he kept the interview on point and seemed genuinely interested and open to Catholic teachings. Jimmy is a rock star - I especially enjoyed at the end about the purgatory discussion. When Jimmy teased this out of Dr. James White in his last debate it was marvelous. I have learned so much because of him.
Thanks Jimmy
I disagree with a lot of Catholic theology, but they are certainly right about being pro-life
This is a thorny issue insofar as, in practice, it's become entangled with Republican politics, and a lot of Christians believe it's the single relevant issue. I mean, let's step back a moment. If we, say, protest a clinic, who or what are we really concerned about? The infant, itself? We're really not sure if it suffers, and my guess would be No, but we'll set this aside to ask a more pointed question. Are we concerned about the mother? If so, is our concern basically virtue signaling or self-righteous condemnation? Or do we have a genuine concern that if she kills an infant within her own body, she could find herself on a very steep and slippery slope to the death of her own soul. I suspect that should be the primary concern. But then there's the whole issue of social inequalities that leads to this mess in the first place, and so the problem is a big, intractable mess
Maintaining the life of the infant is important, more important than the destiny of the soul of the mother. That's Because we have agency over the life of the unborn, but very limited agency on the state of grace of other people.
@@tafazziReadChannelDescription too hard and fast of an answer to a very complicated question
@@WayneDrake-uk1gg it's not a hard question. You can't kill babies, and you can't sit idly when that happens. It's your moral duty to work for upholding the intrinsic right to life every human being has. It's not a mess. It's not hard. It's simple.
@@WayneDrake-uk1ggnope. Not complicated at all. The answer is that simple because the situation is that simple. You can't murder for comfort.
@@WayneDrake-uk1gg I'm not sure that it is a very complicated question, at least on the matter of abortion. Yes, you are pointing toward very complicated issues in modern society that need to be addressed, but in all of them asking the question, "Would it be OK to kill innocent humans if it helps solve these problems?" the answer is an obvious "No." So the single important question is "What are the unborn?" If they are humans that should not be killed, then abortion is unthinkable, if they are not humans then abortion should be permissible with no justification necessary.
"My body my choice" is a morally bankrupt position. 1) it's not your body. Your wishes do not trump soneone else's right to life. 2) followed to its logical extreme you would then be happy to kill babies up to the point of delivery.

Jimmy, you should react to Taylor Marshall. Some friends of mine listen to him like he is the pope and I would appreciate if you have an argument rebutting him. Keep up the great work!!!
Muslim pagan god AIIah is the same as Satan for us christians, never forget that. There is only one true living God, Triune God Yahweh = Father+Son+Holy Spirit
3:22 this caller does not know the Faith and has no reverence for Christ to ask such a question
So Jimmy, instead of rebutting, you just point to your website. WHAT A COWARD. Bart just annihilated you with the crucifixion narrative from the gospels, and you could not be bothered to rebut, or, worse, to defend it.
WOW, another fake preacher SHIFTING the Burden of proof. Instead of PROVING his man-made story, he resorts to Double Standards. So, Bart must show that the bible story is unreliable, and the CLOWN just says "No, Bart hasn't proved his claim" I mean, you can't be more DISHONEST than this. Reliability vs Inerrancy. You incorrectly defined Reliability, it is not a gut feeling. At least you got inerrancy right, you must be reliable some of the times, lol Faith is not a path to facts, accept the inerrancy of the bible out of IGNORANCE. Just read it and believe it because a blood sucking pastor says so.

(1) No human has the right to use your body without your consent. (2) If another human tries to use your body without your consent, then you have the right to defend yourself against It by using any means available and necessary. (3) An unwanted unborn human is trying to use a woman's body against her consent. Consequently, the woman has the right to defend herself against this unwanted intruder by any means available and necessary. Furthermore, I was reading through Exodus 21 a few days ago, and I learned that Christian God doesn't even consider unborn humans as fully human. Exodus 21 states that if you kick a pregnant woman in the abdomen, and she miscarries, but she doesn't die, then the penalty is not a "death for a death." The logical conclusion of this law is obviously that an unborn human is not as valuable as a born human, since the penalty for killing an unborn human is less than that of killing a born human. In conclusion, body autonomy rights and Exodus 21 are more in alignment with abortion rights than pro-life opinions.
An unborn child's body is not your body and it has the same right to bodily autonomy that you describe. Once you conceive a child it's no longer just your body in question, there's another person's body in the equation. Unborn children have the right not to be dismembered and ripped from the womb. You consented to the child entering your body when you had intercourse. The sexual act is for procreation and not for selfish gratification. Furthermore, you are misinterpreting the passage you are referencing. “When men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that there is a miscarriage, and yet no harm follows, the one who hurt her shall be fined, according as the woman’s husband shall lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. - Exodus 21:22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child.-It is assumed that this hurt would probably take place through the interference of a pregnant wife in some strife wherein her husband was engaged. It would almost certainly be accidental. This is describing an unintentional miscarriage not a deliberate act of abortion. Comparing this to intentionally destroying an unborn baby for convenience is a bad faith argument. Nice try. Cope more.
@@CaptKingKaneMoreover, the child's body being in its mother's body, is in accord with the natural order. The child's body is not in the mother's body due to some kind of invasion that needs any defence whatsoever. The natural, logical result of sexual intercourse, is the conception of a child, whose natural home at that stage of his/her development, is the womb of the woman who made her. The child cannot be anywhere else, and the child originates from nowhere else apart from its mother's body. That gives the mother and obligation to provide a suitable home for her child that she caused to exist. The man who caused the child to exist also has an obligation to provide all that is necessary for the woman to provide this natural home for her child. Anyway, you have said all that needs to be said, this is just to emphasize that the "defense" premises is very much invalid. That is where the child's originates. There is no invasion and hence no need for any defense.
1 is false. The correct formulation is "no human has the right to abuse your body". For example, imagine you're on the edge of a cliff, and a child slips and hangs on by grasping your leg. You have zero right to withdraw your help, any maniac that would kick the child off deserves jail for a long time. The child is in that instance using your body. This is use, your consent is irrelevant. It's not abuse, as in the violinist's hypothetical.
@@tafazziReadChannelDescription So, you would love to live in society where surgeons are allowed to take organs from their patients. without permission from their patients.
@@CaptKingKane You are the one flying high off the copium. Yes the Unborn has a right to its own body, but not when It is unwanted in another person's body. The law is clear, but you are trying to twist it into knots to alleviate your cognitive dissonance. Christian God doesn't consider unborn humans to be of the same value as born humans. It is in his book in plain language.
I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is disgusting how pro-abortion our state government is. This is supposed to be a Catholic state.
Jimmy, do small children ever have negative NDE's? Like 8 and under. If not then the "guilt" hypothesis now has measurable data. BTW, refreshing to hear someone intelligent talk about these. I thought many of the same things.

In the future the two guys that were next to James White is very distracting you should have a different place for them
Every time I hear James White it confirms for me how blessed I am to be Catholic following the Church that Christ established not a man-made Church established during the Protestant Reformation
James so you're saying that for 1500 years Jesus got it wrong? Your man-made church started way later. I'm following the Church Jesus started with turning over the keys to Peter The Rock the first pope
Jimmy Akin wins again
Its not a cryptid but another animal driven in extinction by murderous humans.
Peace and thanks for compiling the stories. Assume had to use non-copyright song version. My fav are the girls from O Brother Where Art Thou. I hope I would still test the spirits in the Name of Jesus whatever is not of God begone. Eternal rest...to all the souls mentioned. Not a comfort to me to anticipate seeing relatives but pray with hope theyre saved and dont presume and never to despair or envy graces per CCC of St Pius X. These stories reassure yet Jesus said few find the narrow way so am cautious while trust all souls belong to God per Ezekiel. Quote from St Paisos of Mt Athos: "A vision of Christ. It is worth to struggle for a thousand years only to see this beauty just for a moment." (Keeping the memory of God called more attainable goal for monks. Fr Folsom, OSB)😊
Hey Jimmy. Love your content. Where can I find your contact (Email)?
Allah is not the God of the Bible. Read the Quran
I don't think it's at all reasonable to write off as "hallucination" or "delirium" the frightening visions of some of the dying. Given the existence of negative NDEs and "wide is the road that leadeth to destruction", I expect there are no small number of negative DBVs, but such stories are much less likely to be recorded and passed on. I won't be surprised to see demons coming for me as I pass from this life, and I sure hope the people around me don't assume I'm just seeing things if I say so.
I'm convinced my mom was having a Deathbed Vision when she passed from this life into the next. It was August 6, 2015 (The Feast of the Transfiguratio), and Psrkison's Disease had robbed her of her strength, her ability to eat, and her speech. I'll make a long story short by skipping to the moment of her death. While her in home hospice nurse was getting her stethoscope to check mom's breathing, mom suddenly started staring at the wall, and peacefully smiled. She then nodded yes, and still smiling, turned slightly towards me. Her face became bright, and for about a second or so she looked young; similar to an old photo of her when she was in her early 30s (mom was 88 at the time of her death). When she turned back to look at her vision, she nodded again, as if to signal she was ready, after which she peacefully let out her last breath.
I myself was able to sense a peaceful and loving presence the whole time, and am convinced it was Our Dear Sweet Lord coming for her. I wouldn't be surprised if Our Lady was with Him as well, given my mom's devotion to her.
My Mom had something similar. She had become very weak. Literally could not lift a finger. Could not talk, eat, drink, or lift her head. She suddenly started reciting the 2nd half of the Hail Mary, then the Our Father, but barely able to understand. I sat by her side and held her hand. She then started looking straight ahead, and speaking in another language I do not know. Then she suddenly, and in one smooth strong movement, sat up, looked straight at me, said"I love you", while with one hand forceably pushed me off the bed (I'm a big woman) and was reaching out with her other hand towards whoever she was speaking to at the wall. I feel so blessed to have witnessed this, whatever it was.
👍
The female narrator has some very nice readings. Really elevates the text to another level in some cases. God bless.
Jimmy, talk to hospice nurses. There are people who have horrible deathbed visions, and terrible deaths. Whether these people were horrible in life, I don’t know. But some people get tremendously agitated and are afraid to die, and they are dying - they can’t prevent it. It’s awful to see, and you can give them anti-anxiety meds but you can’t prevent the death. And you often can’t drug the agitation away.
Love you Jimmy! Thank you! I think they should rename the Peak in Darean experience. It's a confusing name and explanation. I've heard you explain what it is multiple times now and I still don't think I would be able to explain it to someone else
I think of it as if you are on the top of the mountain peak, you can see both sides of the mountain at the same time, both this life and the afterlife. You might see someone on the afterlife side of the mountain that you had thought was still on the life side.
Sanctification happens between your acceptance of Christ and your last breath... not after death.
